The pH values of Cleaning Products – What Do They Mean?
Have you ever wondered what pH means and why it matters in cleaning?
The pH value indicates how acidic or alkaline a cleaning product is. The scale ranges from 0 to 14:
Acidic (pH 0–6):
Effective at removing limescale and rust stains. Mildly acidic formulations are commonly used in bathroom cleaners, such as Nord Clean’s WC gel, which has a pH of 1–2.
Neutral (pH 7):
A gentle option for everyday cleaning. For example, Nord Clean’s all-purpose cleaner and dishwashing liquid are pH-neutral, making them suitable for most surfaces and gentle on the skin.
Alkaline (pH 8–14):
Effective for removing grease and stubborn dirt. Kitchen degreasers are often alkaline, allowing them to dissolve grease quickly. A good example is Nord Clean’s kitchen spray, which removes grease efficiently thanks to its high pH level (10).
Why Is It Useful to Know the pH Value?
When you know a product’s pH value, you can choose the right cleaner for the right task. Alkaline products are needed for stubborn or greasy dirt, neutral cleaners are often sufficient for general cleaning, and acidic cleaners are the best choice for removing limescale.
